Safely Preventing & Controlling Household Pests
At Florida Sun, we believe that by utilizing a number of strategies - including inspection, monitoring, and pest exclusion - we can help keep unwanted pests at bay with minimal reliance on pesticides. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) can be used in all of our general pest control services. When we do prescribe pesticides and baits as part of our Integrated Pest Management approach, we take the least toxic route first to provide a more natural method of control.

What is IPM?
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is a form of pest control that is rapidly gaining popularity. The method involves simple and effective steps that can be taken by both the homeowner and the pest control provider to help prevent or eliminate common pests like cockroaches, mice, and rats. In addition, it is one of the safest methods of pest control for both people and the environment.

Integrated Pest Management relies on common sense tactics, such as:

• Denying pests access to food, water, shelter, and easy entrance into the home.

• Using safer alternatives to pesticides, such as baits, traps, and powders (like borate).

• Applying pesticides only as needed and using the least hazardous kinds available.

One IPM method that Florida Sun can incorporate into your custom integrated pest control system is the Glue Board, or 'pest monitoring device' as it is sometimes called. Glue Board monitoring devices can be placed around home entrances and water sources, such as plumbing fixtures. This method is perfect for identifying the origin of the pest problem and keeping pests from entering the home without the use of chemicals.

The Exterior PestGaurd Treatment
Florida Sun Termite and Pest Control will install two lines of defense around the exterior of the structure. The first line is to use granules approximately two to four feet away from the structure. These are moisture activated and are applied every three months. The second line of defense is Termidor applied around all entrance points to the structure such as windows, doors, eves, cracks and utility lines. Around the base of the structure and mulch areas are also treated. Termidor offers the most effective, low-dose control of outdoor pests available, with proven control of a number of nuisance ant species; even with outdoor perimeter applications at the low rate of 0.06% active ingredient. Ants foraging on Termidor-treated surfaces, ingesting Termidor through normal feeding activity, or that are sprayed directly with the product will die, but not before spreading Termidor through contact throughout the ant population via the product’s unique “Transfer Effect”. Termidor is easily picked up by ants, and has a quick speed of kill – 1 to 3 days – but is slow acting enough to ensure transfer throughout the population. Best of all, Termidor will reduce the need for nuisance ant service calls.
